Why Riddick is not your usual movie-to-game adaptation

Erin over at Play-Girlz asked me “what makes Riddick so atypical”? Like I’ve said, it’s not quite an FPS and it’s not your usual movie-to-game garbage. Cough *Spider-Man* cough.
You see, calling Chronicles of Riddick: Escape From Butcher Bay an FPS wouldn’t be fair. As we know, first-person shooters are quite an unsophisticated bunch. You point […]

The joys of being Riddick #1: Not quite an FPS and it’s a good thing

Nobody wants to be stuck in the slammer, but when your name is Richard B. Riddick, it’s not really a problem. You won’t be packing with big guns here, not during the early parts at least. Everyone’s favorite intergalactic fugitive has to make do with fists, shivs, and screwdrivers to get the job done.As the […]

Riddick’s Escape from Butcher Bay can’t evade attention

You may have noticed in my previous post that I have a shortcut to The Chronicles of Riddick: Escape from Butcher Bay on my desktop. If you’re a regular here, then you probably know that Vin Diesel’s movie-to-game effort is my most-coveted FPS.I was hankering after that game for so long that I just had […]

Putting “closure” and Max Payne 2 in a sentence feels strange

I have found closure.
I had mixed feelings when I first finished Max Payne 2. Disappointed with the turnout of events, I was also pleased because the ending was nothing short of brilliance.
However, I never really felt that the series was finished. Aside from being mentioned in the end credits of part two, news of a […]

Tiberium video talks about tactics

EA promised to deliver Tiberium’s gameplay video last January 25th. I’m not sure if it was shown on the exact same date, but here is what they’ve shown us:

The very idea of controlling other units is intriguing. Sure, you may get to do this with those Rainbow Six or Ghost Recon shooters, but it’s nothing […]

Condemned 2 video looks worse for wear in a good way

I’m looking forward to Condemned 2 because the original was awesome. It’s not exactly a “shooter” in a strict sense because getting and using guns isn’t exactly as easy as picking it up like in other FPSes. Condemned was more about the melee and the atmosphere. Its mood was sheer perfection.
What is the sequel like? […]

Yahtzee chimes in on Crysis belatedly

I don’t know what Yahtzee has been up to, but he certainly is a bit late in getting a Crysis review out, considering that the game has been out since November last year. Then again, the guy is based in Australia, so I can’t speak for the timeliness of new titles’ arrivals.
After all, Australia is […]

FPS doohickey for PS3 is in short supply

SplitFish, a maker of video game hardware, revealed that demand for its gaming peripherals has led to short supply in North America and Europe. Scratch that; the shortage can be felt in Asia, my corner of the globe.
You see, I’m crazy about the company’s new PS3 peripheral, this handy gadget called the FragFX. Maybe you’ve […]

War Rock gets a new patch

K2 Network, the game publisher for online FPS War Rock in the U.S., Europe, and India, announced the release of a new patch titled Chapter 2: Revelations. The patch comes with a spanking new storyline, a couple of maps, three vehicles, four PX items and a parachute system, among other things.
The two new maps are […]

Crap-Detector: Strong PC sales would convince Crytek to port Crysis to consoles

You’ve probably received word that EA dismissed rumors of Crysis being ported over to the Xbox 360. It’s not really breaking news since EA has denied this before. Add to the fact that Crytek actually boasted of next-generation consoles (i.e. Xbox 360 and the PS3) not being powerful enough to run its shooter and you […]

Valve listens in on The Orange Box’s PS3 problems

If you were foolish enough to get The Orange Box for the PS3 despite its negative previews, then you’re most probably moping about how bad the loading times and the framerate are, among other things. Well, there’s good news: there’s a very good chance of a patch coming.
But forget the speculation you’ll read—we’ve got proof. […]
