MGS4 How To’s: Beat Vamp
So you’ve finally returned to Shadow Moses and had a good look at Metal Gear Rex (or what’s left of it). That’s when Vamp, the seemingly-immortal bad guy, jumps you. Fighting the guy seems easy enough, especially since his attacks aren’t particularly devastating or difficult to dodge. But when the battle extends to over 10 minutes, you realize it’s not an ordinary gunfight.
If you keep bugging Otacon for some hints, he’ll tell you what you need to know—you need to disable Vamp’s nanomachines using the syringe given by Naomi Hunter. This is done by accomplishing the following in order:
- Equip the syringe;
- Knock Vamp out. One headshot using a shotgun is effective;
- Position Snake behind Vamp;
- As Vamp gets up, use CQC on him (by pressing R1);
- Press the triangle button to inject the syringe.

Yeah, had to look up a FAQ for this one. I wished that they’d explained the syringe a little better though :(

That’s the tradeoff in those free FAQs. They sometimes miss out on the important details like this one.
