Crap-Detector: Pay extra for a Fallout 3 clock

All these special editions for each game is coming out left and right. Metal Gear Solid 4 has one, so does Crysis and Grand Theft Auto IV. If you haven’t noticed by now, they’re ways for game companies to make an extra buck. Heck, I don’t think there’s anything wrong with that, but a particular special edition I learned about takes the cake.
Remember when we announced that there’s going to be a collector’s edition for Fallout 3? Well, that’s not the end of it. According to Bethesda, there’s going to be a Fallout 3 “survival edition” that’s coming out for all versions of the game.
Interestingly, this edition is available for pre-order exclusively through Amazon.
The package includes a life-size replica of the Pip-Boy 3000, the wrist-mounted device worn by Fallout characters. The Pip-Boy 3000 is actually a digital clock, in case you’re wondering. The edition would include all of the items included in Fallout 3’s collector’s edition:
- The Fallout 3 game;
- Customized, metal Vault-Tec lunch box;
- 5″ Vault Boy Bobblehead;
- ‘The Art of Fallout 3‘ hardcover book; and
- ‘The Making of Fallout 3‘ DVD.
In other words, it’s the glorified digital clock that makes this survival edition different, and that you can only get it via Amazon. Who knows how much you have to cough up for that thing? Perhaps some nerds hardcore collectors would snap this offer up.
If you’re somewhat normal but is inexplicably compelled to get any special edition for Fallout 3, then do your parents a favor by accomplishing the following: a) get out of their basement, b) spend your own money, and c) purchase the one without the clock. If you’re as normal as can be, just buy the game when it comes out.
FYI, the Amazon page is unavailable as of this writing.

Too many special editions coming out. There are so many coming out now that they aren’t even “special” anymore. Most of the stuff in a collector’s or special edition isn’t even close to being worth the extra $20 - $30 bucks.

I agree. Now if this Pip-Boy worked like the “real” virtual thing, it would be special. But a clock for an extra $20? There is nothing special about that.
Perhaps it’s a “survival edition” because they’ll ask for an arm and a leg for you to survive.
