Let’s face it: the previous Grand Theft Auto games were absolutely pathetic in the shooting department. Press a button to automatically aim, and then press another to shoot. Was it fun? Nope. The only reason past GTAs sell well is the sandbox-style gameplay that lets you do anything (i.e. run over pedestrians, shoot people, steal […]

I never thought cover mechanics popularized by third-person shooter Gears of War could be implemented in an FPS. The following Killzone 2 video tells me otherwise:

I’ve always hated the tradeoff of using motorcycles versus cars in Grand Theft Auto games primarily because I can’t shoot from inside a car, and that chasing someone in high speeds while riding motorcycles is bad for your health. It was a vicious circle that made GTA more difficult than enjoyable.
GTA IV seems to have […]

We finally had our “told-you-so” moment when Bioshock was confirmed for the PlayStation 3. Now that it’s out of the way, we’ll tell you when it’s coming out. According to a 2K Games press release, Bioshock for the PS3 will be available in October 2008.

Ben “Yahtzee” Croshaw is bored. After reviewing a succession of major releases like Grand Theft Auto IV and Super Smash Bros. Brawl, the British-born Australian writer decides to review Painkiller, a game released way back in 2004.

We’ve all heard of Bioshock coming to the PlayStation 3 for the longest time. I’ve raised this issue at least a couple of occasions. When Penny Arcade brought up the notion that a number of staunch PS3 fans “hate” (or as the comic suggests, “feel a blend of semi-grudging acceptance and cautious enthusiasm”) the 2K-developed […]

GameTrailers has finally given its two-cents’ worth on Haze, a PS3-exclusive shooter that hasn’t been doing very well in the reviews department. Among the verdicts you’ll see, this video is perhaps one of the more grounded.

Remember the thrill you felt when you first heard about Resident Evil 5? At that time, GameCube owners were the only people enjoying Resident Evil 4, though the promise of a PlayStation 2 version was imminent. RE4 was critically acclaimed and with good reason; it was a reimagining of the franchise that had relied too […]

I was tagged last week by Aiza, our “hardcore” casual gamer (is there such a thing?) at Gamerlite. It took me almost 10 days to reply because traffic was such a bitch over at Liberty City. It’s refreshing to be on the receiving end of a meme this time because I remember being the instigator […]

We’ve all heard of critics raving over handsome water effects within a game. Remember how impressive and realistic the water looked in Uncharted: Drake’s Fortune and Bioshock? It looks like the benchmark is about to change in Project Origin, the sequel to Monolith’s 2005 “horror” shooter F.E.A.R. Have a look:
Instead of realistic water effects, Monolith […]

The last time we saw Blendtec founder Tom Dickson, he did what the Covenant wasn’t able to do in three installments: turn Master Chief into space dust. Tom can’t seem to beat his grandchildren in Halo 3 so he took the game and pulverized its disk with his company’s blender. It looks like the Will […]
