Latest Rainbow Six Vegas 2 video is ugly
We all know that Rainbow Six Vegas would eventually get a sequel just like Advanced Warfighter. Now that the details on Rainbow Six Vegas 2 are out, it’s time you get to see how it’s shaping up.
It’s hard to be impressed with what we’ve seen. For one, the video was too short to be informative. Next point, the sequel doesn’t give Unreal Engine 3, a sweet-looking game engine, any justice. The trailer was visually bland and there’s not a lot of Las Vegas seen in it. All I saw were the same corridors and they don’t even look nice.
What’s worse, Ubisoft Montreal seems to have taken the hostages’ visual design for granted. I didn’t see any emotion in the civilians when they were reunited with their loved ones. The hostages acted like automatons going through the motions; everything looked just plain ugly.
Look, there’s no need to put a gazillion polygons and normal maps on these hostages to make them look believable at the very least. Some motion capturing would surely help to evoke the tension in these supporting characters’ movements. And you know what? Ubisoft Montreal can already stop there. There’s no need to lay a thick coat of the shiny stuff, no need to study the dilation of the eye’s pupils, no need to make hundreds of facial animations to convey more emotion. Since a lot of tense action is happening onscreen, some little details can be ignored anyway.
Body language, however, is easily observed despite an ongoing firefight.
Look Ubisoft, we appreciate explosions just as much as the next guy, but please do put in more humanity in this shooter. The violence can be desensitizing so signs of life in games would be greatly appreciated. And would you please work on the clipping? There’s simply too much in that one video, and it was short to begin with.
