Gears of War for the PC ships with a problem, but there’s a fix

by Mike on November 7th, 2007

Gears of War is teh ultimate 2007 purchase

Yes, the day I’ve been waiting for is finally here. Gears of War for the PC has finally shipped. Gone are the days of detesting the Xbox players for having an exclusive shooter that’s arguably the best 360 title to date (yes, it’s not Halo 3 or Bioshock).

I’m still lurking around my local retailer for a copy of the game, but there’s still no news when it’s coming to our shores. Nonetheless, I’m sure to have the game once it lands on local shelves.

But wait! There’s a problem. When you first run the game, GFW Live will update itself automatically but won’t be able to complete the update. Can you believe this? Just because PC games can be updated, the makers take errors for granted. If this is the case, maybe we can also hand over the pay later.

How to fix the problem? According to Gamerscore, there are a couple of ways. Here’s the first:

“The easiest is to simply shut down the game after the update is downloaded (you’ll know it’s safe because you’ll be back at the main menu, and not on the “Don’t shut down your PC while the update is being downloaded” screen). As soon as you close the game, the update will install automatically and you’re good to go.”

The second option is to manually install the latest GFW Live update.

Microsoft’s marketing folks said the “good news” is that once you go through the process, you won’t have to do it again. Gee, that’s wonderful. What if we wanted to install the game in another machine? </sarcasm>

Here’s a better fix: save us all the trouble and don’t ship the game with any major bugs like this one.
