Call of Duty 4 video review
How does GameTrailers like the latest Call of Duty? A lot, I’d say.
However, I’m a bit disappointed that the review focused on the Xbox 360 version even if the game was available on other platforms, namely the PC and Playstation 3. Aren’t you wondering how Call of Duty 4 performs with today’s PCs? While the PS3 may be a more powerful beast, does the shooter look better in Blu-ray?
After all, more hardware muscle doesn’t automatically translate to better graphics.
On a happier note, it’s good to see that the franchise’s trademark excellence in multiplayer is still here. Would this necessarily translate to loads of people playing in Xbox Live? Would you stop playing Halo 3 for COD4?

Man, just watched the review and COD 4 looks pretty good! I’m not a big fan of multi-player but I’ll give the single player campaign a shot at some point.

I’m surprised that they scored it so highly considering some of the critque that they gave.
This game doesn’t really phase me much though, I’m not interested in the gameplay to warrant a purchase. But I’ll prolly buy a copy when it goes out a bit cheaper.

@Daniel
Yes, I understand what you mean about the score. Maybe it’s the longevity of COD4 that pulls the rating up?
@Klopzi
Hell yeah, the game looks great. I might purchase it, but not sooner than Gears for the PC. Like you, I’ll be getting it for the single-player component.
Gears however, I’m getting for the multiplayer.
Hey, do give me your 2 cents’ worth when you do get the game. :) I think I won’t be getting COD4 for this year.

COD4 isn’t on my must-buy-right-now list either. With Half-Life 2, Assassin’s Creed (which is looking better and better as we near the release date), and Mass Effect, COD4 will have to wait.

I think I’m one of the only people on the face of the planet that’s not joygasmed over CoD4. All of my friends are super-psyched for it. I find myself scratching my head. Sure, I enjoyed Call of Duty 2, and found the multiplayer to be pretty decent. But why are people this gaga over CoD4? I can’t figure it out for the life of me.
Then again, TimeShift recently became my new GoldenEye, especially single-player. It’s one of the best single-player campaigns I’ve played in a long while.
Multiplayer is wicked, too. I’ve spent some time in it, and I’ve gotten so many scary kills with the Slow grenades. You get rushed, toss a slow, then torch the bastard. The Hell-Fire…best flamethrower ever.
Actually, TimeShift is one of those games for gun-nuts, too. Some of those weapons…are nuts. NUTS.

I was very disappointed with Call Of Duty 3. By chance, I rented before buying it, beat it and returned it in a couple days.
I think this may be a good direction for the game. I hope that it is as impressive as it looks. Either way, I plan to rent it first as my trust for the games has been lost.
I am sure that I will have my review posted on http://www.multiplayergames.com in the future.

Believe me, you’re not the only one. ;) As you can see in this discussion, there are already several of us who’s not too keen on the latest COD.
I might give TimeShift a spin, but I heard it’s quite generic. Not a priority either. It’s Gears baby, Gears!
@ Erik
What about COD3 disappointed you? I’m not fan of the series myself, so I’m curious. And what makes you think part 4 is going in a good direction? Is it because of the WWII departure?

Mike,
My disappointment with COD3 was from several things. For one, the graphics were not really different. There were also very many glitches. It was very frustrating to see someone and not be able to shoot them because they were behind a box. I like the old WWII theme and guns, but the actual game play had too many problems.
One board alone I was stuck on for hours because of a glitch. When I gave up and started it over, I had no problem getting past because it was not me, but the game. Even with this delay, I still beat the game in three days. This three days was not three days of complete “vid-ing” out.
I really liked the first Call of Duty. It was intense, and for the time very realistic. Also, it was cool when you go to the Russian part and they stick you with ammunition and no gun, when is historically accurate.
The new game looks cool from the trailers. I think I big problem I had was that the previous games were all the same. Therefore, I will give the new version a chance because I can see they have some new ideas.

Hmm. Curious points. Makes me want to try the demo out. Believe me, I tried downloading the COD4 demo, but by some strange reason, the files were corrupted.

CoD3 was mush, too. Where CoD2’s multiplayer felt somewhat tight, CoD3 was just all over the place.
From what I’ve been reading about CoD4, its multiplayer sounds crappy as hell. Leveling up should never be a part of online FPS. And in the rare moment that it is, it never should give gameplay perks like increased damage and shit.

Can’t really say this leveling-up is bad. According to some reviews, it doesn’t unbalance the game. Then again, I haven’t tried it myself.
My initial reaction is more curiosity than anything else.

At first I thought the leveling up would be cool. However, that is only cool for those of you that play the same game all the time.
The rest of us would be at a disadvantage making it unfair and not fun.
However, if the have a seperate ranked match and regular match, and maybe some settings so that some servers can have leveled up players, and others that are even, then maybe this feature could be cool.

Doesn’t XBL have this sort of feature? I’ve never tried it myself, so sorry if I’m mistaken. :P

XBL does have Ranked and Player matches, so I’m hoping CoD4’s bullshit leveling system isn’t present in Player matches, since, you know…Player matches don’t carry Rank. Or so I’d hope.
Certain things I’m reading about CoD4 just irk me. Like since when did developers believe it to be a good idea to grant an entire team super-radar when one of their players gets a multikill?
Mike

@ Alex
Really? That sounds unfair. I wonder what possessed Infinity Ward to allow that. A multikill alone is a sign that one guy from “Team A” can handle multiple guys in the other group. This super-radar is adding insult to injury.

I’ve seen videos of this super-radar in play, and it’s terrible. Beyond just showing enemy location, it also shows which direction they’re facing. Infinity Ward, you’re on crack.
I dread to see what happens when a few teammates score multiple kills at the same time. Would all the perks trigger at the same time? One player gives his or her team super-radar. Another player enables automatic air-strikes. A third unlocks an attack chopper to decimate on street level.
*sighs*
