Shadowrun gets cracked, runs in XP

by Mike on June 27th, 2007

Vista schmista

If you’ve gotten tired of waiting for the leaves to fall and play Shadowrun without having to migrate to Windows Vista, then you’re in luck. Razor 1911, a popular warez group, has successfully hacked Shadowrun to be played under XP. Yes, you don’t need DirectX 10 either.

Like other cracks in existence, all you must do is overwrite several files in the installation folder with the ones provided by Razor. When you’ve done this, you’re ready to go.

The Inquirer shared with us the contents of the information file that comes with the cracked Shadowrun:

“Tired of waiting for Falling Leaf to produce drivers so that you can play Shadowrun in XP? The wait is over, because Razor1911 already has the remedy! Yes, you read right. This game will also function in Windows XP.”

Yes, Razor has raced Falling Leaf Studios for this milestone and has upped the ante. Obviously, this copy of Shadowrun won’t be sold for the same price because it’ll be even cheaper.

Aside from the fact that this Shadowrun is pirated, another concern comes up: as you know, warez games can’t be updated through normal means. If you implement a patch, your game normally won’t run anymore. Other gamers ignore updating the game because of this, but continue to purchase warez anyway because they can still play the single player part of a game.

Shadowrun is a multiplayer-only game. If your version is different from the others, then you can’t play with them. So how does this cracked version help us?

4 opinions for Shadowrun gets cracked, runs in XP

I’m surprised anyone went through this much trouble just to play Shadowrun. It’s an ok game, but there are better titles out there…

Sure, people can pirate Shadowrun and play it in a LAN, just don’t expect to play it over the Internet.

Good point, Klopzi. I wouldn’t even bother with Halo 2. Can somebody please port The Darkness to the PC?

“Can somebody please port The Darkness to the PC?”

YES. Dear God yes. I already have it on 360, and I think it’s so incredibly beautiful and poignant, but the dual joysticks bother me. Having to play with auto-aim annoys me, because without it, I can’t easily target anything. Flick of the joystic and the reticle goes past my target.

Might just need to continue adjusting the sensitivity…I hope. haha

But that’s a minor quibble, because the game is fantastic, especially plot-wise. Birthday cake with the girlfriend, then she falls asleep, with your arm around her, as you sit on her couch and watch To Kill A Mockingbird? I fell in love with the game right then and there, because it was so bittersweet.

I’m probably pathetic like that, and I love it. The Darkness is the first game to really make me feel for the characters. At times, it actually gives me vibes like I get from The Graduate.

Argh, your post was sheer torture Alex. Makes me drool for the game some more, but I don’t know when I’ll play it.

Nothing pathetic about that, mate. There are special games that make us feel that way. ;)
