Quake Wars trailer leaves bad aftertaste
A new trailer for Enemy Territory: Quake Wars is out, and it gives us a look into how the multiplayer shooter is cooking up. Have a look:
The response to the trailer hasn’t been very good. The biggest point of contention is how the game currently looks. Others reason that Quake Wars is currently in development, so all the eye candy isn’t implemented yet. Sounds a lot like the reactions to Halo 3, hmm?
While the game’s defenders may have a point, I’d like to remind them that Quake Wars is currently in the beta testing phase. What does this mean?
FYI: Beta testing is the last stage of testing. As described by Webopedia, this phase normally can involve sending the product to beta test sites outside the company for real-world exposure or offering the product for a free trial download over the Internet.
If there’s any good time to put in the eye candy, it should be now.
That said, Quake Wars currently isn’t looking up to snuff. The sound is terrible and the visuals are nondescript. To think that this installment will be a commercial release unlike its free-of-charge predecessor Wolfenstein: Enemy Territory. Did I mention that Quake Wars will have in-game advertising?
If Splash Damage is planning on charging people for this product, they’re going to have to do a better job than what they’ve already shown us.
