Big Daddies are roving Bioshock stage bosses
I’ve never heard of a roving stage boss before, and that’s how Irrational Games describes Big Daddies in Bioshock. Want to know more? Watch the trailer below:
I like the idea of creating a unique experience for each player, and according to lead designer Ken Levine, that’s what Irrational Games is aiming for. Levine observed that shooters have gone stale by offering too much of the same thing because they’re too scripted.
A roving stage boss is only made possible if the game’s design is open-ended, something that Bioshock is hyped to be. Commence drooling.
August is fast approaching and there’s still no news of Bioshock going gold. I take this as a good thing because could mean that the game is still currently being tweaked. Bioshock already looks fantastic, but I can’t say it plays the same. I also take this with a grain of salt because I don’t know if the AI issue I previously pointed out has been resolved.
I did notice a silver lining in the AI cloud, though: when a Big Daddy hurled a seat at one of the Rapture citizens, the guy flinched and tried to block the chucked seat with his arm. Is the AI decent enough? Ask me again in August.

BioShock is looking better and better with each new video released.
I think the player’s interactions with the Big Daddies and Little Sisters will be what sets this game apart from any other FPS ever created.
If this game releases on schedule, BioShock could sell like hot-cakes (and rightfully so).

I agree with you Klopzi. This interaction is nothing like I’ve ever seen in a shooter. I think that aside from the usual scares we’ll encounter in the game, this strange relationship is going to spook the hell out of me.
I love it.
