Crysis shows us DirectX 10 is prettier

by Mike on May 29th, 2007

More hype coming your way. This time, EA decided to show us the differences between DirectX 9 and DirectX 10 in Crysis, which needs no introduction as the biggest hog this side of PC shooters.

Have a look:

Oh, there’s more.

If you’re clueless until now what this means, then let me spell it out for you—DirectX 10 is available only with Windows Vista. If you’ve been putting off an OS change until now, Microsoft and EA think Crysis will make you change your mind.

If you think your current PC can somewhat handle this kind of eye candy but you’re still running XP, ready your wallet because using Vista probably won’t give you the same oomph. To get the nice rain and other unnecessary mouthwatering effects the trailers showed, you need Vista and another monster 3D card that supports DirectX 10. Guess what? Your current monster 3D card supports only DirectX 9.

Geez - makes me wonder why I ever gave up PC gaming. Crysis may just suck a few console gamers back to their PCs…if they can afford the system needed to run Crysis at 1600×1200 with max detail.

And Vista and DX10 looks like they’re really going to let developers push that envelope. I just hope that us Xbox 360 guys get a little some half-decent ports at some point.

Hey, you Xbox 360 guys get all the fun. Gears of War is enough to get PC gamers green with envy. It would take a very beefy rig to run something like Crysis, and the frequency of such games is too sporadic.

We just confirmed Crysis looks good, but we don’t even know if it’s really good as advertised.
