Far Cry Vengeance for the Wiiiiiiiiiiiii..iiiiii..ii
In an addendum to the Metroid 3 post about FPS games being on the Wii, Far Cry was yet another attempt at pushing out the genre to Nintendo’s most fun (to say) console.
Sadly, it seems harder than it should be. While the other FPS game Red Steel didn’t do so well on the Wii due to a rough control scheme, Far Cry seems to get the controls right, but everything else wrong. So does this make FPS games on the Wii a success or failure? Rather hard to say. If the controls are good, but the game just sucks, it can’t really be any fault of the console or the controller. Likewise, assuming Red Steel had a good storyline, but just sucky controls you can’t say that FPS gaming on the Wii is awful. Just poorly implemented.
Hopefully we’ll get a game out soon that will show other developers just how it’s done and a more reasonable stream of FPS games for the Wii will arise and make it a more viable genre for the console.
