Blacksite - Area 51

by Matt on January 29th, 2007

In light of a slow news day Firingsquad has a quick writeup on a newly unveiled game. Blacksite - Area 51. Blacksites for those of you who don’t know are government facilities whose real purpose has been classified or something along those lines.

Read the wikipedia link.

What this means for us is a shooter based off the Unreal 3 engine where a squad of 3 people go in and create a ruckus with the aliens. And truth be told, that’s about all that ever happens. Such a simple concept and yet it goes so far.

Multiplayer features will include two player co-op mode through the single player campaign and at least 16 player modes like deathmatch, CTF and new modes where you play as the Reborn. Smith told us that they have thought about Xbox 360 and PC platforms playing against each other but that no decision has been made yet.

Plus points for the co-op. This has taken a huge turn since the release of Halo and I’m quite glad to see a lot of companies trying to incorporate this as often as possible. I enjoy shooting my friends as much as the next player, but sometimes you want to complete some objectives together.

Not much else to add as the game is fairly new to the information arena. More when it becomes available and if I like it enough to post about it.

Speaking of not caring. Midway let loose about ‘Hour of Victory’. A WWII themed FPS. I especially like the Call of Duty 3 ad next to the article.
