Ritual to do Casual games
In a “what the hell?” kind of moment GameDaily is reporting and has confirmed that Ritual Entertainment, the guys who made the game SiN, along with the recent Episode One release have joined forces with MumboJumbo to focus on..casual games. What does this mean?
The idea of acquiring Ritual was to have them strengthen our development in the casual genre and not to have them involved at all in the action style games,” Cottam explained. “If there’s an opportunity to have them do something on the SiN episodes, we would look at that, but that will not be the focus of the company.
Now I don’t know about you, but that’s a huge leap in my mind. Going from creating a game where upon the first thought in my head when playing it was “Wow she has giant breasts” to games that 5 year olds can giggle and laugh at while mommy washes the dishes is not something that happens often.
The sad part is that I was fairly fond of SiN:Episode 1. It was fun and the scaling difficulty made it much more enjoyable. I’m sure not sure where they were in development on Episode 2 but it looks like things are definitely on hold for the time being. I guess the game just didn’t do as well as they had hoped.
Upon further reading I’m finding that one of the heads of Ritual formed MumboJumbo or is atleast a part of it, so the two companies coming together isn’t totally off base with that connection but still it’s a momentus change of focus for Ritual and you have to wonder what else happened at the company to make them switch gears like that.
