FPS Rantings

Hellgate London continues

by Matt on January 18th, 2007

So after the initial fury and hate about the subscription fee. The guys on the Hellgate team sorta kinda not really retracted the statement. Mainly they got some PR control and managed to still stay they were charging for online play but they said it in a way that seemed to calm everyone.

…we can tell players that there will definitely be significant free online play.

Significant portions. Well now. That’s great. That could mean anything. If we’re lucky it means that the single player campaign is available to play with your friends, a la Diablo II style, and any expansions or additional content you’ll get if you’re part of the subscriber base. Which I figure isn’t all that bad. I just hope that they continue to listen to people (to some extent) and tread very lightly and smartly about this whole thing. I can see the whole game hinging on this issue and they hopefully will play it right. Though I did see one comment suggesting that it would be highly amusing if the game ended up sucking and no one played it anyways.

Highly amusing indeed.
