A Gamers’ Manifesto
With Microsoft and Sony pushing more pretty pixels per square nanometer than you can squint at and Nintendo making you question your male sexuality as you swing that controller through the air like some insane asylum reject, this all begs the question, is this what gamers really want?
These guys have asked that question and put forth a list of 20 things they want 7th generation of games and consoles to have.
It’s got a humorous twist to it, but valid points are raised and it really makes you think as to where games are going. The machine isn’t driven by people like this anymore, it’s driven by the guys who have only ever played Halo, Grand Theft Auto(3 and up), and Madden. While gaming got a gigantic boom from the influx of all these players once they realized that games were “cool” they also now make up a large chunk of influence and as such their wants are listened to more than others. The sun glare off all those shiny pixels has distracted us from what we really need - games that challenge us. That make us work for our frags. Sitting in an airduct and watching as the enemy AI throws a grenade inside. Not from a scripted event but, because they knew I was there and that it was the best way to get me. Games that make you re-think your strategy.
Anyways, they go over all this kind of stuff, and I highly recommend the read. It’s funny and raises some great points and ideas.
Enjoy.
