Crysis Mutiplayer
Some slower news lately but today 1Up has an article about how Crysis Multiplayer is gonna pan out. From the read it sounds really good and thought out. They implement a credits system like how Tribes initially had the energy system, atleast, until server admins set it to unlimited. Basically the more people you kill and the more objectives you gain, the more credits you get to buy weapons and ammo. Though they do mention the downside of not-so-good players who are stuck with a pistol while the really good ones run amok with the heavy weapons. The better players will have a higher credit worth when killed so supposedly it’ll balance out. Eh, we’ll see. The system in Tribes had a team energy pool so everyone contributed to the same spot and you all took from it. I often remember games where one team was doing poorly and so the team had no energy and everyone was running around in light armor and blasters. Kinda rough. Hopefully this indivdual based credit system will help solve that.
One of the features they mention that I really liked was buying vehicles. When you buy a vehicle, it’s yours. You don’t stand there buy it at the vehicle pad and watch as some numbnuts hops in and drives away leaving you to have to buy another, hoping someone else won’t take advantage of your vehicle purchasing skills. l33t as those sk1llz may be, it’s a little frustrating. The article does mention that vehicles are still hijackable it just takes a lot more effort. Which is fine by me.
The only gameplay mode they mention is one where you attempt to find alien cores and bring them back to your base for advanced upgrades and whatnot. However, upon doing so it lights you up like a Christmas tree. Everyone on both sides knows where you are and what you’re doing. They’re hoping it fosters a convoy type system. I could kinda see that happening.
I’m really hoping they can deliver on this type of gameplay. Or rather, that it pans out like they hope it does. Because it sounds like it could be a lot of fun besides the old tried and true deathmatch and capture the flag. Not that those aren’t fun, but they’re tried and true for a reason.
