Video Game Slayings Cont

by Matt on August 3rd, 2006

During my perusings. I came across this article on Forbes. It’s a follow up to the “Xbox” Murders story that I posted about a few days ago. Basically the sentencing was life for one of the guys and death penalty recommendations for the other two. Here’s a blurb of how it all went down.

Prosecutors said Victorino was angry with victim Erin Belanger, 22, who had him evicted when she found him living in her grandmother’s home in Deltona. She kept some of his belongings, including some clothing and the video game system

You know what they titled this story on Forbes?? Man in Video Game Slayings Gets Life. Video game slayings. What. The. Hell. Seriously. This had absolutely nothing to do with video games. I don’t understand why these news companies keep trying to spin the story as such. I know the headline probably gets more hits this way, but it’s misleading and frankly, wrong. If you read the story there isn’t even a debate about whether or not the men were thought to have based the murders off a game. I know it may seem silly, but at the bottom there is a link to send your comments to the editor. I sent mine in saying how wrong I felt the blatant mistitling of the headline was and how sad I think it is that a top publication such as Forbes is resorting to lying in order to bring more hits to the story.

This is why gamers and video games get such a bad rap and people believe that video games are the root of all evil. It’s pathetic and a poor excuse for journalism.
