Dead Island
Worthplaying got their hands on this game during E3 and they wrote up a little preview of it.
Basically it’s a zombie game. You’re stuck on an island with zombies and you get to run around pretending that you’re going to survive. See, I say pretend, because there really isn’t much hope against zombies. Sure, I have a co-worker who’s pretty determined that he’ll survive. He’s got escape routes planned, stores to hit up for supplies, locations scouted out, the whole nine yards. But it comes down to the fact that zombies are already dead and as it’s sometimes difficult to make things…deader..(yes, I know shoot them in the head) you eventually run out of ammo and food and water, but you never run out of dead people. While this makes for an enjoyable game experience, the outcome is inevitable that you will die.
Game is being made by the same people doing Call of Juarez (Techland) and so they’re using the same engine, which looks really good in screenshots, yet when I saw a video trailer of CoJ the other day it didn’t look nearly as impressive as I first thought. It’s still a pretty engine, nonetheless, and it looks to serve it’s purpose for Dead Island. The article mentions zombie games being a dime a dozen, and while I do know about some zombie games, I can’t seem to recall many FPS ones. Sure there have been mods for other games that get you your zombie fix, but none really that started off as being a zombie game first. Of course, I could just have a bad memory, or it could be the fact that I really don’t like zombies. They creep me out.
