Game Hype and Press
While this isn’t exactly FPS news, I have talked about gaming hype before, and my stern disdain of it. Well I recently found an article on Kotaku that seems to have found a strong source for the hype itself. Press releases. They’re always positive. You never hear anyone talk about the game like it truly is. Atleast not in any sort of major way. Most of the time you hear about it from blogs like this or other review sites. For the more serious gamer this is never really a problem as most of us tend to follow a game we’re interested in and see what other people have to say about it. Casual gamers and parents though…well. That’s a different story. They tend to look at the press reviews see that it gets high marks or they read the quick blurb about the game, it gets them all excited and off they go.
Like little cookies with legs marching into Cookie Monster’s mouth.
Anyhow, the article is a good read and it’s nice to see people starting to take a stand for this stuff. As lazy, uncaring, and violent prone gamers are, we do have a sense of pride and self worth that we’re finding and it’s about time we put it to good use.
